IDC School of Design at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) offers an excellent environment for academics, research and applications in the field of design. IDC envisions a holistic design education that shapes the students into responsible contributors to society.

Courses & Fees

From the year 2015 onwards , IDC will offer a four year, eight semester Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programme and a five year, ten semester dual degree B.Des + M.Des programme. However, the option of doing the dual degree, B .Des + M.Des will be available only at the end of the 3rd year.

Bachelor of Design B.Des, M.Des, Ph. D.

Specializations offered: Industrial Design, Communication Design, Animation Design, Mobility and Vehicle Design.

Eligibility: 10+2 from any stream (for B.Des)+ uceed. The candidate should have a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks in case of SC/ST/PwD) or equivalent grades in the qualifying degree for individual streams. The candidate should have also qualified through Common Entrance Examination for Design. (for M.Des)

Placements

Many Industries, Firms, and Organizations come to IIT to recruit fresh students from IDC. IDCians are much in demand and it is quite common to get several jobs offers before the students complete the course.

Packages:
B.Des Average package: 6 to 9 lakh per anum
M.Des Average package: 8 to 12 lakh per anum
Highest package: 23 lakh per anum

Faculty

There are 25 faculty members supported by technical as well as workshop personnel in their educational, research and consultancy projects. They are engaged in a variety of tasks within the campus as well as outside IIT. They interact with industry and institutions in organizing seminars, conducting short term courses and workshops, consultancy and advisory programme, quality improvement programme for teachers, and holding exhibitions. The faculties have backgrounds in Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Animation, Film and Video, Architecture, Art, Engineering Sciences and Ergonomics. They have qualifications from Institutions such as IDC, IIT Bombay, India; NID, India; RCA, UK and RISD, USA.

Hostel

IIT Bombay has 17 Hostels of campus (hostels no-1 to16, hostel no -18 and Tansa) for students. Each hostel is an independent entity with its own mess facilities, recreational areas, etc.  Students can also choose to make their own arrangements for accommodation outside the campus.

Scholarships

Teaching Assistantships/Research Assistantship For M Des Programme :
IDC offers teaching assistantships to as many as 22 students each year. The teaching assistantships are based on the performance during admissions. Teaching Assistantship is revised for all disciplines w.e.f. 1.12.2014. Teaching Assistantship Rs.12400/- p.m. for two years.
