NID Bengaluru NID’s R&D Campus at Bengaluru was set up as a joint initiative of and funding from the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Information Technology, Government of India and was inaugurated in March 2006.

NID’s Research & Development Campus addresses the immediate need for an exclusive Design Research centre in the country, by fostering the creative design spirit and sighting new opportunities and frontiers through NID’s design acumen nurtured over the four decades of intense teaching-learning process.

Bachlors Of Design B.Des

Specializations offered: Film and Video, Exhibition video, Animation Film Design, Graphic Design, Ceramic and Glass Design, Furniture and Interior Design, Product Design, Textile Design.

Duration:4 Years

Eligibility:

  • The minimum educational qualification that candidates need to meet in order to be eligible to appear for NID Entrance Exam 2024 includes:
  • Final examination of the 10+2 system under a central or state board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • Intermediate or two-year per-university examination under a board or university recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
  • Senior secondary school examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects.
  • Any public school, board or university examination completed in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)
  • HSC vocational examination.

Masters Of Design M.Des

Eligibility:

  • Bachelor’s degree of minimum four-year duration in any discipline from a recognized university or college.
  • Bachelor’s degree of minimum three-year duration in any discipline from a recognized university or college.
  • Full-time diploma of minimum four-year duration in Design/ Fine Arts/ Applied Arts/ Architecture passed from a recognized university or college after clearing Class 12. However, candidates must (have passed/ have appeared for/ be appearing for) the diploma exams at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in May 2024.

Ph.D

Specializations offered:

Duration:3 to 5 Years

Eligibility:

  • Master’s degree in design from an accredited institution/recognized university OR NID’s PGDPD, AEPEP or five-year SLPEP Diploma in Design. Candidates with a master’s degree in areas relevant to design may also apply. Such candidates must have at least one recognized degree, either UG or PG, in the field of design.
  • Bachelor’s degree in design from an accredited institution/recognized university OR NID’s GDPD or four-year SLPEP Diploma in Design, with at least three years of professional and/or teaching experience.
  • Full-time diploma of minimum four-year duration in Design/ Fine Arts/ Applied Arts/ Architecture passed from a recognized university or college after clearing Class 12. However, candidates must (have passed/ have appeared for/ be appearing for) the diploma exams at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in May 2024.
  • Candidates who have successfully completed a faculty development programme in design or related field (of two or more years’ duration) from NID or any other university recognized by the UGC/Institutes of National Importance. They will be treated at par with Master’s level students.
  • Candidates with qualifications in subjects other than design shall be entitled to apply to the Ph.D. programme, provided they have at least one recognized degree, either UG or PG, in the field of design, and have a demonstrated interest in and aptitude for the study of design. They also need to pass the Design Research Test (DRT).

Placements

The college has not released the official placement report for the year 2023. However, as per the media report, the average package offered was INR 21.30 LPA (Approx.) during NID Ahmedabad placements 2023. Further, as per external sources, 124 companies visited the campus during National Institute of Design for three campuses i.e., Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Gandhinagar placements 2022. Similarly, 30 job offers were made by Microsoft during the placement drive 2022. Candidates are advised to visit the official website to know the complete list of placement details 2023.

Faculty

The instructors at NID Ahmedabad are experts in their fields, approachable, and well qualified. Most of the professors have doctoral degrees. Case studies, presentations, student engagement, field trips, real-world projects, simulations, and other active learning techniques are all used in their classrooms.

Hostel

All B.Des. students who live outside of Ahmedabad can stay at the dorm run by the National Institute of Design.Students can only stay in a hostel for one year before they have to ask to move to a different hostel. Everyone who lives in a hotel has to pay to use the mess facilities. Students from the area cannot apply for dorm rooms. All of the students’ rooms come with a bed, a desk, a chair, and storage space.

Scholarships

A number of Free ships / Scholarships offered by NID, Ford Foundation and Government of India Scholarships are available to the deserving and disadvantaged candidates. Candidates enrolled in the full-time Ph. D. programme shall be eligible for a research fellowship or a stipend at rates approved by the Senate of NID.
