Presidency University Design is a problem-solving method; although nascent to Indian Industry and Society, it has gained tremendous popularity across the Globe in the areas of Design and Design Thinking in particular, which have become key words to solve contemporary issues, problems and concerns.

As Design is known to contribute to the growth and functioning of industry, driving innovation chains, supporting development of product strategies, increasing usability of products on one hand, it is also known to facilitate development of products and experiences that help create user friendly products for betterment of human life, communicate new and old ideas in novel ways and create impactful experiences.

Within this globalised market, where product cycles are substantially reduced, innovation is a constant demand and growth or impact is the measure of success, there is an emergent need and demand for trained individuals who are creative problem solvers, agile and disruptive thinkers, adaptable to variant environment, sensitive to stakeholder needs and responsible to the society and environment.

Design and Designers thus gain more and more importance in today’s world. To distinguish a Designer from a mere mechanical mind, a technician, technocrat or even a craftsperson however, you need to follow not only a learning process that teaches you the necessary skills but also trains you to think differently, to adapt to any given situation as a problem solver, a non-linear thinker, look for alternatives and find solutions within nonconventional means. In a world that is rapidly becoming technology driven Being user and resource friendly is equally important.

The School of Design (SOD) therefore aims to provide higher education in Design that combines capabilities of critical and analytical thinking, research and practice-based Design Learning. SOD feels it is important for Designers and all to have an understanding of how Design is shaping our socio-cultural environment and how the environment is changing Design, and this is where SOD varies from other Design schools.

SOD therefore focuses on work and life of the future. It seeks to provide students with a critical understanding of Design through the practice and analytical mode while maintaining a global perspective. SOD Faculty are trained expert domain specialists with global perspective and international exposure and strong industry connections.

All SOD programmes therefore impart domain specific technical training, design study focused and an exposure to latest innovations and global developments in the domain. SOD students will have opportunities to work on real-life ideas and projects, while building a perspective on universal social, cultural, economic discourses, debates and issues.

Carefully placed within an existing ecology of Engineering and Technology, Management and Law Programmes offered by the University, and being located in Bengaluru, the capital of Start-ups, SOD would look at several Collaborations with other pioneer Institutions and Research Centres to emerge as a true Multi-disciplinary Centre for Excellence.

Eligibility:

• A candidate seeking admission for B.DES program should have passed Pre-University / Higher Secondary /10+2 examination Pass with Arts /Commerce /Science stream, obtained at least 45 % marks & 40% in case of candidates belonging to SC / ST and other Reserved Categories like Category -1 and OBC (2A, 2B, 3A and 3B) belonging to Karnataka.
